Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October11,Saturday launched a rural development scheme under which each member of parliament will adopt three villages by 2019.The scheme was launched on the birth anniversary of socialist icon Jai Prakash Narayan, just days after the government kicked off its Clean India campaign on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
Motto of this program:
This program is to improve the standard of living and quality of life of millions of people in the countryside and aslo to boost rural development under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme(MPLADS).
Under the programme, each MP will take responsibility for three villages and turn them into a “model village” by 2019.
On Modi words:
“We are nearly 800 MPs including Lokshaba and Rajyashaba, If before 2019 we develop three villages each, we reach nearly 2,500 villages. If in the light of this scheme, the states also create a similar scheme for MLAs, then 6,000-7,000 more villages can be added,” Modi told MPs.
He also told that "If we succeed in this,the same implementation will be in state Government to their MLA's then we can develop nearly 6,000-7,000 more villages.
He said it was not a money-driven scheme but aimed at the overall development of rural India.

Other names in the list: Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State for Commerce, has chosen two villages in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, MP Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party, AK Antony of the Indian National Congress, JD-U’s Sharad Yadav are among others who have each chosen a village to adopt in their respective constituencies. Dimple Yadav, Mulayam Singh’s daughter-in-law, has adopted a village from her Kannauj constituency. BJP MP Rajendra Agrawal has adopted Bhagwanpur Chatawan village in Rajpura. BJP Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna has adopted Adamwal village in Hoshiarpur district, which is also reputed to be a drug menace village.
This was not a money-driven scheme but aimed at the overall development of rural India.
